Getting the Most out of your Academic Advising Appointment

A little preparation can go a long way in helping you make the most of your time with an advisor. Here are a few ways to set yourself up for a productive conversation:

1

Come Prepared

Take some time before your appointment to do preliminary research and jot down questions or goals for the meeting.

2

Explore Self-Service Options First

Some requests can be completed online without an appointment. Check our self-service options to see if you can move forward right away.

3

Be On Time

Arriving on time ensures you get the full benefit of your appointment. If you’re unable to attend, cancelling in advance allows another student to book that time.

4

Stay Organized and Follow Up

Take notes during your appointment and ask questions if anything is unclear. If the next steps are identified, completing them promptly will help keep you on track.
