Q: What drew you to the Bachelor of Management program at UBCO?
A: Growing up, I was inspired by my father’s journey in banking and entrepreneurship. The Bachelor of Management program at UBCO stood out to me because it offers diverse courses in areas like entrepreneurship, law, marketing, and finance, along with the option to minor in Economics. Being in Kelowna, a thriving city, presents exciting opportunities to explore my passion for business and potentially launch my own ventures.
Q: What have been your biggest takeaways from the program?
A: My biggest takeaway from the program has been the emphasis on teamwork. Many of the courses involve collaborative projects like group essays and presentations, which have taught me invaluable teamwork skills. This experience directly translates to the real world, where teamwork is essential in virtually any role.
Q: What has been the most rewarding part of the program so far?
A: The most rewarding aspect for me has been the connections I’ve forged through the program. Building relationships with peers who share similar passions has been incredibly fulfilling, both professionally and personally. These connections have played a pivotal role in my personal and professional development. Moreover, the faculty members have been incredibly supportive, always available to offer guidance and answer any questions we may have.
Q: What advice or insight would you give a prospective student considering the program?
A: For prospective students eyeing this program, my advice is straightforward: don’t shy away from stepping outside your comfort zone. Whether it’s joining clubs like the MSA, diving into case competitions like JDC West, or simply speaking up in class, pushing your boundaries is crucial for growth. Make the most of the diverse array of fun events and networking opportunities designed for Management students. These experiences will truly enrich your journey and set you up for success.
Q: Why did you decide to run for MSA President?
A: I decided to run for MSA President because my experience with the association during my second and third years was transformative. Joining the MSA provided me with a sense of belonging, helped me build friendships, and grow personally and professionally. I’ve always aspired to lead the organization and give back to the community that has given me so much.
Q: What are you looking forward to most about joining the MSA?
A: As for joining the MSA, I’m most excited about collaborating with the new executive team, comprised of eight Vice Presidents and myself. Planning and delivering a memorable year for every Management student, working closely with faculty, and nurturing partnerships with sponsors are all aspects I eagerly anticipate. Additionally, I’m excited to forge new friendships and connections that will last a lifetime through my involvement with the MSA.
Q: Are you or have you been in a co-op placement? If so, what was your role with that company?
A: I completed my 12-month co-op as an Administrative Assistant within Commercial Banking at RBC. I began the co-op placement in June 2023 and have been gaining valuable experience in this role ever since. My co-op ended in April 2024 and I have now transitioned into a summer internship as a Client Advisor with RBC.
Q: If you have participated in the co-op program, what were the greatest benefits of the program and what advice would you share with someone considering doing a co-op
A: Participating in the Co-op program has provided invaluable clarity regarding my career path. The industry exposure I’ve gained has been exceptional, offering a glimpse into post-graduation life. Working in a bank for the past 15 months has provided hands-on experience in the corporate world and facilitated meaningful connections with industry professionals. My advice to anyone considering a co-op position is to keep options open—don’t limit yourself to a specific city, company, or job. Any experience gained is valuable.
Q: What are your future career goals?
A: As for my future career goals, I’ve always aimed to thrive in the banking industry. My co-op role and current summer internship have given me a head start, and I aspire to transition into roles within investments, such as counselling, portfolio management, or wealth management. Exploring investment this year has sparked my interest, and I envision myself working in wealth management down the line.
