Bachelor of Commerce (BCom)

Pursuing a finance concentration will equip you with the essential skills and knowledge needed for careers in financial management across various sectors, including corporate enterprises, investment firms, banking institutions, and government bodies focused on private sector finance.

* COMM_O 399 – Special Topics in Business I or COMM_O 499 – Special Topics in Business II may be used when approved by the Faculty of Management as appropriate to Finance.

Many upper-level courses require lower-level prerequisites, students should select lower-level electives carefully.

Understanding your electives

27 elective credits must be non-COMM_O or non-MGMT_O
  • A minimum of 12 credits of these credits must be at the 300- or 400-level
24 elective credits must be COMM_O or MGMT_O
  • All of these credits must be at the 300- or 400-level
  • 15 credits of these electives will be applied to an approved concentration
3 credits can be COMM_O or MGMT_O or non-COMM_O or non-MGMT_O at any level

 

Students Tracking to the CFA Program

Students who want to pursue the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation after completing the BCom are recommended to review the resources below. Many upper-level courses have specific prerequisite courses that must be completed before registration.

Students need to plan early and use their elective space in Year 1, 2, and 3 very carefully.
