SESSIONAL LECTURER POSTINGS

We also hire faculty into term appointments for a specified period of time for courses taught in the Faculty of Management. Sessional lecturers teach and/or perform related duties, including course coordination or lab supervision for a period of less than 12 months.

Sessional Lecturer Position in Finance at University of British Columbia

 

The University of British Columbia’s Faculty of Management, located at the Okanagan campus, invites applications for a Sessional instructor position to teach the following course during Term 1 of the 2025-26 academic year.

 

Term 2 (January 1, 2025- April 30, 2026)

 

  • MGMT 436 (3) Investments

Basic principles and tools of investment analysis. Understanding of the properties and uses of three broad types of financial securities: equity securities (common stock), fixed income securities (government and corporate bonds), and derivative securities (e.g., futures, options). The trading process, portfolio theory (risk-return and risk-arbitrage models), security analysis, and investment performance evaluation.

 

A PhD or PhD (ABD) in Finance is preferred.  A master’s degree in management or related fields is required.  The candidate will have a broad knowledge of business and management subjects, including comprehensive knowledge of optimization, linear programming, probability, random variable and simulation. The candidate will have demonstrated excellence in teaching. The candidate would ideally have relevant working experience in the same areas of expertise.

 

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated excellence in and commitment to undergraduate teaching, ability to work independently, effective communication skills, the promise of educational development, and proven potential for creating innovative instructional environments in the undergraduate classroom for management/business students. Experience in curriculum development, course design, and other initiatives that advance the University’s ability to excel in its teaching and learning mandate is also an asset.

  • MGMT_O 411 Human Resources Management  

Develops an understanding of the diverse areas in human resources management. Examines analysis, planning, staffing, performance evaluation, compensation, training and development, labor relations, employee safety, health, human resource management, and an understanding of cultural differences and its impact on the organization.  

 

Term 1 (January 1- April 30, 2026)  

 

  • COMM_O 303 Strategic Staffing 

Processes of workforce recruitment, selection, retention, and renewal. Includes human resources planning, development of an effective staffing strategy and employer brand, job analysis and descriptions, cost-benefit analysis of various recruiting methods, analysis and evaluation of selection methods. 

A PhD in Human Resources or management is preferred.  A master’s degree in management or related fields is required.  A CPHR designation is preferred. The candidate will have a broad knowledge of business and management subjects, including comprehensive knowledge of human resources management and strategic staffing. The candidate will have demonstrated excellence in teaching. The candidate would ideally have relevant working experience in the same areas of expertise.

Term 2 (January 1- April 30, 2026)  

 

  • COMM_O 398 Indigenous Business 

Integrates the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP) into business and organizational practices. Applies UNDRIP principles, norms, and standards to business policies and core operational activities, with a focus on respectful and mutually beneficial relationships with Indigenous peoples. Provides the historical and contemporary contexts of Indigenous business practices and strategies for ethical engagement with Indigenous communities and their lands and resources.  

 

Indigenous knowledge and experience is required. .  A master’s degree or substantial relevant business experience is required.  A PhD in business or management  andprevious teaching experience at the post-secondary level are preferred.

The University of British Columbia’s Faculty of Management, located at the Okanagan campus, invites applications for Sessional instructor positions to teach  multiple sections during Term 1 and Term 2 of the 2025-26 academic year.  

 

Term 1 (September 1- December 31, 2025)
Term 2 (January- April 30, 2026) 

 

  • COMM 190 (3) Introduction to Quantitative Decision Making
    Introduction to decision models in business, including basic optimization, linear programming, probability, decision analysis, random variables, simulation, and solving decision problems using spreadsheet tools. 
     

A PhD in a relevant area of study is preferred.  A master’s degree in management or related fields is required. The candidate will have a broad knowledge of business and management subjects, including detailed knowledge of optimization, linear programming, probability, random variables, and simulation. The candidate will have demonstrated excellence in teaching. Experience with Microsoft Excel Solver and matrix algebra is required. The candidate would ideally have relevant working experience in the same areas of expertise.  

 

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated excellence in and commitment to undergraduate teaching, ability to work independently, effective communication skills, the promise of educational development, and proven potential for creating innovative instructional environments in the undergraduate classroom for management/business students.
