I am a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Faculty of Management, University of British Columbia – Okanagan. I contribute to various courses in the Master of Management program. My research interests include microcredit, poverty alleviation, women’s empowerment, gender, and caste. My current research evaluates the impact of self-help group-based microcredit programmes on the lives of impoverished and socially marginalized women in rural North India. More specifically, I use qualitative methods to examine whether women self-help group members experience a reduction in poverty, and an improvement in their status within the household, as well as the society at large. I also examine the interplay of poverty, caste, and gender on the formation and functioning of self-help groups.
