SESSIONAL LECTURER POSTINGS

We also hire faculty into term appointments for a specified period of time for courses taught in the Faculty of Management. Sessional lecturers teach and/or perform related duties, including course coordination or lab supervision for a period of less than 12 months.

The UBC Faculty of Management Okanagan campus, is looking for a Sessional Lecturer to teach the following courses during the 2024-2025 academic year. 

 

Term 1 (September 1-December 31, 2024)  

MGMT 481 (3) Strategy and Change Management  

Investigates how strategy and change affects the organization and how the organization can be designed or realigned to realize its strategy more effectively. Alignment with organizational mission, how strategic decisions affect the organization structures, processes, culture, resources (both human and financial), and management styles, and how the organization can manage the change process. 

MGMT 482 (3) International Business  

Political, legal, technological, competitive, and cultural issues that shape organizations as they operate worldwide. Understanding of the application of management theory (trade theory, modes of entry, foreign direct investment, factor mobility theory) to the strategic management problems of doing business in the international arena. Cultural aspects of operating in an international environment.  

Term 2 (January 1-April 30, 2025)  

MGMT 360 (3) Business Conditions  

Basic tools and concepts of macroeconomics; review of the “non-market” factors that influence the effective performance of organizations.

The Faculty of Management at UBC, Okanagan campus, is looking for a sessional instructor to teach the following course during Term 1 of the 2024-25 academic year. 

The expected compensation is $16,000. 

 

Term 2 (January 1-April 30, 2025) 

MGMT 410 (3) Leadership in Complex Environments 

Examinations of theoretical and practical approaches to leadership and conflict resolution. Topics covered include distinguishing between authority and leadership, technical problems and adaptive challenges, power and progress, diagnostic frameworks for assessment and strategies, and tactics of intervention to mobilize progress. Also explored is the nature of conflict, its role in human social systems, and ways to address its negative impacts and harness its positive possibilities. 

MGMT 230 and third-year standing.  

A PhD in Business or Management is preferred.  A master’s degree in management or related fields is required.  The candidate will have a broad knowledge of business and management subjects, including leadership, and have demonstrated excellence in teaching. The candidate would ideally have relevant working experience in the same areas of expertise.  

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated excellence in and commitment to undergraduate teaching, ability to work independently, effective communication skills, the promise of educational development, and proven potential for creating innovative instructional environments in the undergraduate classroom for management/business students. Experience in curriculum development, course design, and other initiatives that advance the University’s ability to excel in its teaching and learning mandate is also an asset. Strong interpersonal skills and strength in leading and working in teams, and an interest in developing the Faculty’s vision and mission and its further growth and development will be considered an asset. 

The ideal candidate will also have a strong commitment to Indigenous engagement.
