Celebrating the Class of 2026: Q & A with Aashi Shrivastava

June 4, 2026

As we continue our Celebrating the Class of 2026 series, the UBC Faculty of Management is proud to spotlight students like Aashi, whose university experience reflects the curiosity, leadership, and resilience that define our community.

Every graduate brings a story shaped by meaningful involvement and personal growth, and Aashi’s journey, rooted in connection, service, and a willingness to step outside her comfort zone, captures the spirit of what makes UBC Okanagan exceptional. Through this Q&A, we share the insights and experiences that shaped her time here and the exciting path she is ready to pursue next.

MSA- Innovation Council

What inspired you to choose UBC Okanagan for your studies?

UBCO was actually the only Canadian University I applied to. I had heard about the Management program from my cousin who graduated from the program. I realized that I wanted to try to be a big fish even in a smaller pond. Hearing firsthand from people I trusted made the decision easy.

What are some of the biggest takeaways from your program?

I realized the importance of networks and being connected. Getting involved as a Vice President at the Management Student Association really helped me step out of my comfort zone and make those connections with so many people, some that I even call friends now. Additionally, as hard group work might be, it really taught me how to deal with different kinds of people and how to lead while still collaborating.

MSA Team

What experiences at UBCO helped you grow or changed your perspective?

I’ve had two main experiences that helped me grow and change as a person. The first was becoming the Vice President of Student Resources at the Management Student Association (MSA). I was the youngest VP and was able to learn so much from my executive team. The business trips and conferences allowed me to learn more about myself and also the way I like to lead and interact with others. The second experience would be as a Residence Advisor (RA). You work with so many teams of people that are so different which really expands the way you think and learn. I’ve made connections with students, colleagues and my managers. There is a good deal of autonomy in both these roles and they were quite demanding at times (especially while leading as a Senior Residence Advisor) but it showed me how resilient and strong I could be. There are also so many transferable skills that I picked up from both these roles that I will carry for a lifetime.

What’s next for you after graduation?

I’ll be joining KPMG full-time as an auditor, a role that came directly out of my recent internship with them. Receiving a return offer was a proud moment, and I genuinely don’t think it would have happened without the skills and connections I built through the MSA and my time as an RA.

What advice would you give to current or future UBCO students?

Get involved, that’s the single best thing you can do. As an RA, I’ve encouraged my residents to put themselves out there, and watching their growth has been one of the most rewarding parts of the role. Getting involved doesn’t just build your résumé; it helps you discover what you’re passionate about and puts you in the same room as people who can genuinely help you grow. UBCO has a strong system of clubs, jobs, and opportunities (which can be competitive at times), but there’s truly something for everyone.
