Interdisciplinary Graduate Studies
PhD and Masters
Interdisciplinary Graduate Studies (IGS) offers students opportunities to pursue graduate studies across disciplinary boundaries, and to tailor their course of study to suit their particular needs. At UBC's Okanagan campus, IGS programs are greatly facilitated by the small campus size, which allows students to work more intimately with faculty across a variety of departments and disciplines. The IGS structure allows for both interfaculty and intercampus arrangements for supervision and courses. The course and program requirements provide structure to ensure quality in both the breadth and depth of the student's academic experience.
Applicants will not be considered for admission until written commitment is obtained from a supervisor. Applicants interested in pursuing an IGS graduate degree with a supervisor in the Faculty of Management would choose the 'Individualized option' when applying. Final applications for the IGS program must include the name of the proposed supervisor, the proposed supervisor’s department or unit, and a proposal indicating the study and research to be done with that proposed supervisor.
The supporting supervisor, from whom commitment must be obtained, must provide written confirmation of support for the program of study and research, the availability of facilities required to conduct the research, and the level of funding from research grants and contracts that will be made available for the support of the applicant.
